BLWGC By-Laws

Article I.  Name and Object
The name of this organization shall be the Burke Lake Women’s Golf Club, herein-after referred to as BLWGC.  This is a non-profit Club, the object of which is to stimulate interest in, and provide increasing opportunity for women to participate in the game of golf.

Article II.  Membership and Dues

Section 1.  Any woman living in the area who wishes to further the object of BLWGC shall be eligible for membership, providing that membership is open.

Section 2.  Annual Dues will be assessed and the amount will be determined by the Board at its annual spring business meeting.  Dues are non-refundable and are pro-rated to 50% for new members joining after July 1st, and must be paid before participating in BLWGC activities.

Section 3.  If a current BLWGC member becomes ill or is injured, and requires long term recuperation, this member can choose to change her status to Emeritus.

Article III. Officers

Section 1. BLWGC officers shall be a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Section 2.  A nomination Committee of perhaps one or two; it has been just one in the past shall be appointed by the president by July 31st. The president/vice president and the treasurer/secretary shall be elected in alternate years. It shall be the duty of this committee to nominate one candidate for each elected office of that year and to post the proposed slate on the Burke Lake Clubhouse bulletin board by October 1st. Additional nominations may be made from the floor at the annual fall banquet, provided the consent of the nominee has been secured.

Section 3.  Officers shall be elected at the fall banquet and shall serve for two years.  They shall assume their duties following the annual banquet.  If there is only one nominee for an office, voting for that office may be by voice.  No officer shall serve two consecutive terms in the same office.

Section 4. (a) The president shall perform such duties as are consistent with her office, be an ex-officio member of all committees except the nominating committee and appoint such Committees as are deemed necessary.

(b) The secretary shall perform duties normally consistent with that office.

(c) The treasurer shall collect dues, luncheon fees and disburse money consistent with good business practices.

Article IV.   Executive Committee

Section 1. The executive committee shall consist of the elected officers and shall have general supervision and administration of BLWGC between business meetings.  It shall have power to fill any vacancy in office until the next annual meeting.  The Board shall be subject to the orders of BLWGC and none of its acts shall conflict with any action taken by BLWGC.

Section 2.  Meetings of the committee shall be held “on call” by the president, and voting is only done at full membership meetings in March and November.

Article V.  Membership Meetings

Section 1.  The annual spring business meeting shall be held to assess the annual dues and to transact such other business as may be properly brought before it.

Section 2.  An annual banquet shall be held to present awards, elect new officers and for fun and fellowship.

Section 3.  Special meetings may be called by the president or at the request of the executive committee provided that two weeks’ notice giving time and place of the meeting is posted on the bulletin board at Burke Lake Clubhouse and website.

Section 4.  A simple majority of member must be in attendance at the time of vote.

Article VI.  Parliamentary Authority
The rules contained in Robert’s Rules of Order, Newly Revised shall govern in all full membership meetings.

Article VII.  Amendment of By-Laws

These by-laws can be amended at the full membership by a 2/3rds vote, provided the proposed amendment has been posted on the Burke Lake bulletin board and website 30 days prior to the meeting.
